A Letter from Aussie Land ........

Gary and all,

I am saddened to hear that the Tawe Delta Blues club may be coming to a close, as a regular for a few years (until my escape down under) I have admired the tenacity of Terry and Louise who had the difficult job of running the club (sometimes at their own expense) also the voluntary work by yourself and the others to keep it going. I hope that the performers who raise their prices understand what an adverse effect they are inflicting on the touring scene and that if a venue closes that is one less for them to play in. I understand that expenses have risen and that even the extremely talented cannot live on fresh air but the paying public have only a finite amount of resources themselves.

I made a quiet suggestion last year which some agreed may help. We were issued membership numbers last year and I considered that if everyone who wanted membership pay a small fee as a bond say £5.00 and the average attendance was normally around 70 -80 people ,that sum would possibly offset the losses due to low attendance at some periods, and perhaps the members would benefit by paying less at the door thereby encouraging better attendance. Also if the Club was a fortnightly event could encourage better attendance, I am sure others have made these and more suggestions but every little bit helps eh! I

am coming home next year for a visit and hope that the Club is still going strong,

Good luck and best wishes to all, It is 33 degrees here in Perth and I am just going to open a "cold one" and dangle my feet in the Indian Ocean!

luv from Joppa  xxxxxx

Probably The Best Band In The World

Magenta - Classic Prog Rock from South Wales      The Reasoning - Blew us away supporting Marillion in 2007      Porcupine Tree - Set to be the greatest -1 ... behind Marillion of Course

Three albums to recommend this month and I admit they are not really blues albums (well not at all actually!). Magenta and The Reasoning are both progressive rock bands from the South Wales area whilst Porcupine Tree are set to become one of the biggest rock bands in the world. Don't take my word for it... simply click on the album links and find out for yourself .... (Gary - June 2007)

In the South Wales Evening Post on Friday 6th October Kathryn Lay wrote an excellent piece outlining the quality of music being offered up on our area. Click on the link below to read this article

Sign the Music Petition Today.....

This dropped into my inbox today and I felt strongly enough about it to go to the Number 10 website and register my vote! Briefly, our wonderful government (UK) has recently passed legislation that has put more restriction on the performance of live music everywhere from pubs to schools. There are now fewer places for up-and-coming bands to play than ever. This is just another nail in the coffin of live music in this country. Please take a look at the petition and sign it if you live in the UK. It takes about 10 seconds.

The live music/licensing e-petition now has over 45000 signatures.
regards
Gary (Tawe Delta Blues Webmaster)
