CHAMPIONS

Another 5 goals at our adopted home at AFC Llwydcoed but this time against us as the lads went down 5-3 to AFC Llwydcoed. Goals from Oliver Ardolino and a couple from Gareth Lewis were not enough to keep the winning run going but the title is secure so big smiles were in evidence !

CHAMPIONS

CHAMPIONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A 5 goal win at our adopted home at AFC Llwydcoed brought the Reserve Division West Title back to Town after a year away on holiday at Afan Lido !

Goals from Oliver Ardolino (2), Josh Dorward (2) and Corey Bevan sealed the title with 2 games to go for Dan Thomas and his team. Well done to all the lads for such an effort in a league which has been rather messy with teams dropping out and fixtures being revised. Nevertheless the lads have had to win the games against some tough sides and the Reserve cup highlights how difficult this division was with 3 out of the 4 teams who battled it out in the semi finals coming from our division .... the finalists are both from the West Division. .... well done lads !

Reserves Nearly there but not quite ... with 3 games to go the lads all but sealed the league tonight at Bettws in a Home game against Afan Lido. This 5-0 win means that Bryntirion will need to win both their games, we lose all 3 of ours, and they make up 14 goals ... unlikely but not impossible so the lads will need to work hard on Saturday at AFC Llwydcoed. Town's goals came from Jack Jenkins, Chris Allen, Oliver Ardolino, Gazza Lewis and Tom Blizzard

Youth It is squeaky bum time at Pontardawe as Town drew at Cambrian & Clydach this evening thanks to a goal from Josh Roberts. Meanwhile, with Port Talbot winning at Stebonheath, the lads still need a single point in their final game at Ammanford against Neath on Thursday (6:30pm)

28/04/2012

Reserves Town played this home game with Bettws at Bettws's ground which is a ground the lads will become very familiar with in the coming week. Two goals from Liam James, on a cracker with just minutes to go, sealed the 3 points for Town in a 2-1 win.

Reserves The reserves remain on course to complete their games before the next millennium and possibly win the title as well. A 3-2 win at AFC Llwydcoed was gained with some excellent goals from Rob Jones, Rhodri Dykes and Trystan Edwards.

Under 19s A tough encounter for the lads at Pryderi Park ended in a 2-2 draw which keeps alive the chances of retaining the league trophy. Town goals came from Captain Niall Thomas and Tom Blizzard and this sets up a big game at Cambrian & Clydach on Thursday at 7:00pm where a win will give the lads the trophy - calling on everyone to be there to support Jason, Garry, Steve and the lads!!!

Reserves Town reserves kept their division title hopes alive with a comfortable 4-1 win at Briton Ferry Llansawel. Goals from James Pickup (2) and Liam Griffiths (2) won the game for Pontardawe Town

Under 19s A second half strike from substitute Rees Harris gave Town all 3 points in this tough battle against Neath AFC Youth. Both sides struggled on a bouncy pitch but in fairness they produced an entertaining game on a cold night at Briton Ferry.
15/04/2012

Under 19s Amidst all the celebrations this weekend the Under 19s had a real job today and gained revenge on Llanelli AFC with a 3-0 win with a hat trick coming from Tom Grey.

Under 18s

CHAMPIONS

More celebrations at the Recreation Ground as the Under 18s were confirmed SWFA West Division Champions before the game. The result was still important as the lads want to stay unbeaten for the season ... this one was close as the drew 3-3 against a very good Bridgend College side .... goals were from (Dan did tell me but I've forgotten!!)

Neath League

PROMOTED

Celebrations at the Recreation Ground today as Pontardawe Town secured successive promotions in the Neath League after a 9-0 win over Glynneath Town. With the lads currently in second place and 3 teams being promoted Paul Williams's team made us all proud  .... Goalscorers were S Witheridge (3), L James (3),
B Dorward, J Barry and T Edwards

Under 19s Injuries and withdrawals affected the lads as they went down by 3 goals to 2 at Haverfordwest County. Town took a 1-0 lead into half time courtesy of an own goal but the second half belonged to the home side who drew level and soon went 3-1 up. Jordan Harris, who himself was a late call up, scored a second for Town but this wasn't enough and the lads slipped to their 3rd defeat of the league season/
12/04/2012

Neath League A 8-1 win over relegated Inco Vale gives the lads a chance on Saturday where a win over Glynneath and a defeat, or draw, for Resolven will see them complete successive promotions. Town will though have to play better than tonight against a tough Glynneath side as at half time it was 1-1 but a second half goal fest saw the lads complete the rout despite not getting out of first gear. Town's goals were from Liam James (3), Oliver Ardolino (2), Simon Witheridge, Craig Davies and Craig Harris.

10/04/2012 Reserves A 2-1 win over BF Llansawel keeps the Reserves in the hunt for the  title. Town's goals were from Josh Dorward and Chris Allen.

Under 18s Goals from Jake Barry and Bradley Cooze gave the lads a 2-1 win against Union Rangers at BP Llandarcy under lights. This means that the lads just need to win 1 more game out of their last 3 to secure the championship.
08/04/2012

Under 19s Another big win for the Youth as they defeated an improving Cambrian & Clydach by 3 goals to 1. A brace from Josh Dorward and one from Ryan Griffiths saw the lads home and they now travel to Haverfordwest County on Thursday for another must win game.
08/04/2012

Under 18s This was a very comfortable win over Kenfig Hill by 8 goals to nil for the champions elect and they now need just 2 wins from their final 4 games to secure the West Division.

07/04/2012

Neath League This was a must win game for the lads and whilst the performance was below the level they have achieved at times this year they took away all 3 points after a 1-0 win courtesy of a Simon Witheridge header from a Tom Blizzard cross. Man of the Match for Pontardawe was Joe Farthing.

05/04/2012

Under 19s This was a cracker at the Recreation Ground and such a good advert for Welsh League Youth Football. During the first half it was visitors West End who were the better team by a small margin as the Town lads struggled to gain control of the midfield. Midway through the half a corner to West End as headed home at the near post by centre half Sam Roden to give the visitors a 1-0 half time lead. At the start of the second half Town replaced Jordan Langley with Tom Blackburn who immediately started to make an impact. After a period of good pressure the equaliser cam as Blackburn scored from the 18 yard area. Both sides then battled for the win and it was the home side who picked up all 3 points with a 2-1 win when a corner was bundled home by substitute Liam Griffiths as the game entered added on time. A cracking game, a decent size crowd, officials who were on top of their game and two very good sides .... a good evening at the Rec was had by all.

Neath League

A disappointing defeat at Resolven by 3 goals to 2 for the lads which left everyone gutted as this was definetly a game we should have won. There were poor performances all over the field and although Town scored through Simon Witheridge and Jordan Harris it leaves the lads hoping other results go our way in order for promotion to be gained.

Under 19s Goals from Josh Roberts and Jordan Harris were not enough to win all 3 points as the lads were held 2-2 at Stebonheath by Llanelli FC.

A shock defeat for the lads at home to Merthyr Town has given other teams hope but the league is in Town's grasp as they now look to bounce back at Stebonheath on Thursday night. Josh Roberts missed a penalty.
25/03/2012 Under 18s

A close one but a win nevertheless at Penllergaer against Union Rangers. The 3-2 win keeps the lads unbeaten for the season and on course for the title.
24/03/2012

Neath League

A good solid win by 4 goals to 1 for the lads against a team that recently beat us in the cup. Coelbren's goal came from a harsh penalty but Town hit four with goals from Jack Sudale, Nathan Jones, Ben Dorward and an Own Goal. This result was made extra special as our nearest rivals Resolven, who were 7 points ahead of Town, lost 4-2 at Cilfrew Rovers. Next Saturday's trip to Resolven therefore is one of the biggest of the season for the lads.

22/03/2012 Under 19s The lads bounced back from the defeat against Swansea City with a 6-4 win at Bryntiron despite being 4-1 down at one time and with Tom Blizzard being sent off. The goals A hat trick from Josh Roberts and 1 each for Tom Blizzard, Josh Dorward and debutant Jordan Langley saw the lads through a tricky game.

Phil's Video Link : Pontardawe Town v Swansea City

The lads bowed out of the FAW Youth Cup after giving Swansea City a massive scare as they matched a team, that contained a number of players already on professional contracts, in every aspect of the game and on every inch of the park. The game was played in front of a large crowd which contained a large contingent of Pontardawe Town fans who outnumbered the Swansea fans as members of the Minis, Juniors, Youth and Senior sections came together for this great day.

Town were dealt a blow early on as Tom Grey failed to complete the warm up and as he sat distraught in the changing rooms the lads rallied around him and vowed to win the game for him. Ryan Griffiths was promoted from the bench to start the game up front.

Town hassled the Swansea players throughout the game with James "Freddie" Beer, Rees Harris and Josh Roberts in the midfield competing for every ball and linking up well in attack. In the defence Niall Thomas and Jack Medwin were rock solid all day and with Rhodri Dykes and Cameron Harris playing well, at left and right back respectively, the Swansea players were struggling to make any real impact. In goals James Vyse was in excellent form and dealt with everything that was thrown at him.

Up front Ryan Griffiths was working his socks off and the Swansea back four were looking pretty average at times as they were obviously not used to being hassled and harried like this. Supporting Ryan from the flanks were Josh Dorward and Tom Blizzard who regularly had the beating of their opponents but who also worked hard in defence.

After a goalless first half the game came to life on 50 minutes as Town captain Niall Thomas challenged in the box only but one of the Swansea players tried to rip his shirt off him. The referee immediately blew for the penalty which was converted comfortably by Josh Roberts as the Town supporters, led by head choir boy first team keeper Reevo, broke into song !!!

This shook Swansea up a bit and there were big cheers as Jandir Zola left the pitch having been totally outplayed by Freddie Beer. On 58 minutes though, and for the first time in the game, Town failed to deal with a set piece and Kurtis March headed home the equaliser. Further pain was inflicted on Town after 78 minutes as Gwion Edwards was allowed to run too far and his slotted home from outside the box.

The last 15 minutes belonged to Town as they battered Swansea in an attempt to get the equaliser. Liam Griffiths replaced Ryan Griffiths on 80 minutes and still they pushed on but the equaliser never came although  if the referee had shown a bit more guts then a penalty would have been awarded after 91 minutes as there was a clear hand ball in the Swansea area.

Nevertheless, it wasn't to be and it is Swansea City who progress into the final where they will face TNS who beat Wrexham in the other final and we wish them  good luck for that.

As for the Town lads they must now focus on winning the league as it is the very minimum they deserve this season.

Well done to everyone involved on the day - to the players, coaches, officials and parents and also to the brilliant support who played a massive part on the day.

I am banned from saying what I think of the officials on the day which is disappointing as I was going to say they were overawed by the occasion and, especially during the first half, they suffered from big club syndrome as everything went Swansea City's way. As for the penalty at the end the referee and assistant referee simply bottled it .... but I am not allowed to say that so I haven't and therefore Jason won't tell me off !!!

Well done Pontardawe Town - A proud day for the club!

05/03/2012 Under 19s An excellent 3-2 win at second placed Carmarthen Town as the lads bounced back from the Port Talbot Town defeat. An own goal which Tom Blizzard is claiming, one from Jack Medwin and the 3rd from Liam Griffiths saw us through this tricky top of the table game.

04/03/2012 Under 18s A 0-0 draw at windswept Seaside FC means the Under 18s continue to be unbeaten in this league which is turning somewhat farcical as Afan Lido and Talycopa FC have now joined Tata Steel and Llanelli by withdrawing !

03/03/2012 Neath League Paul's lads bounced back from the defeat against FC Clydach with a fine 2-0 win over Harp Rovers at Tennant Park with goals from Jake Barrie and Oli Ardolino
26/02/2012 Under 19s Port Talbot Town remained the thorn in Ponty's side as they won 3-1 at the Rec. Ponty's only goal came from Ryan Griffiths
26/02/2012 Under 18s An excellent 2-0 win over Trefelin BGC keeps the lads unbeaten ... goalscorers to be confirmed
25/02/2012 Reserves Revenge was sweet up at Bettws as the Reserves bounced back from a 2-0 defeat in January to score 3 without reply. Goalscorers to follow ....

25/02/2012 Neath League Paul's team was stretched to the limit as call ups to the First team resulted in a ripple effect thus taking a number of lads into the Reserves. All this on a day when the lads were facing table topping FC Clydach. That said these young lads who, despite a loss of 3 goals to 2, continue to show a great deal of promise. Town's goals were scored by Jake Barry and Chris Jones.

After last week's failure to play due to the weather, a bumpy pitch was the only risk to the game going ahead today. Not many were around in the morning to witness the scene of two of the Pontardawe Town management team pulling a roller with a rope being chased by Ollie the dog. Luckily the council finally stepped in and Groundsman Royston was given access to the tractor to pull the roller properly. It made a great difference and the flat surface was one of the reasons behind such an excellent game.

This game was a credit to both clubs and the players on the pitch. The speed of the game, the skill shown and the commitment of the lads was exceptional and all the players deserve a massive pat on the back for providing such excellent entertainment. There has to be a winner though and it was Pontardawe Town who go into the semi finals to play the winners of Swansea City and Taffs Well.

The home side started the better and in the first 15 minutes had two chances cleared off the line, hit the post and shot just wide. On 26 minutes though it was the visitors who took the lead when left back Paul Morgan was given too much space in the 18 yard area and he shot past the helpless James Vyse in the home goal.  Town looked for the equaliser for the rest of the first half with Tom Grey and James Beer working well in midfield but being matched by the visitors especially the busy Troy Greening. Up front County's main threats were Myron Rhan and on the left Dan Compton but they were well marshalled by the home side's back four of captain Niall Thomas, Jack Medwin, Cameron Harris and Rhodri Dykes.

After the break the Town lads continued their positive approach to the game and on 55 minutes a ball across the box found Josh Dorward in acres of space and he calmly slotted the ball over the keeper with a fine shot to make the scores level. Back came County and for the next 20 or so minutes they seemed to boss the game and in doing so went close on a number of occasions. They had to be on their toes at the back though as Rees Harris, Tom Blizzard, and Josh Roberts battled for every ball and between them broke through on a number of occasions without getting the finish they probably deserved.

A little fracas towards the end of the 90 minutes threatened to boil over but Referee David Morgan sorted things out well and things calmed down. With both teams battling for the winner the referee blew up to move the game in to extra time which was to be 10 minutes each way.

In extra time County continued to threaten and only some last ditch defending by Rhodri Dykes kept them out. Penalties were looming as the teams started the second half of extra time but after 3 minutes Josh Roberts had a sniff of a chance and he fired in to give the home side a lead they probably deserved in the overall context of the game. County battled to the end and as tempers started to get the better of some of the lads an incident on the far side led to Town substitute Ryan Griffiths getting his second yellow and he was sent from the field. Moments later though the referee blew up to end the game and to send the home team, management and supporters home delirious.

All of the players, and the officials, today can be really proud of themselves as this was a fantastic game. As for a man of the match this was a difficult one as everyone gave 100% but my man of the match was Tom Grey who was closely followed by match winner Josh Roberts.

12/02/2012 Under 18s A show of strength of our booming Youths set up at Bryntirion as the Under 18s, on same day as the Under 19s were progressing in the FAW Youth Cup, won 5-0 with goals from.......... to be confirmed

29/01/2012 Under 18s The Under 18s dropped their first points of the season with a 2-2 draw over at Kenfig Hill. On a poor pitch the lads played well and with goals from James Richards and Ross Jones the lads thought they had won it but Kenfig Hill equalised at the death to share the points.

29/01/2012 Under 19s The lads continued their good form with a comfortable win over the Institute by 3 goals to nil. The Town scorers were Sam Jones, Josh Dorward and Rhodri Dykes .

22/01/2012 Under 18s The Under 18s won this game with ease over second place Maesteg Park with goals from James Richards (3), Ross Jones, Dean Clisset, Sam Williams and Luke Meredith. The lads are still top with 9 out of 9 wins....

15/01/2012 Under 19s Not sure who scored in the 5-0 win over Afan Lido but it could be Ryan Griffiths with 2, Tom Blizzard, Josh Dorward and Niall Thomas ... but then again it might not !!

15/01/2012 Under 18s A good win for the lads to keep the top of the table with goals from Ross Jones, James Richards and Corey Bevan

14/01/2012 Neath League League form once again deserted the lads in the Cup as they went down 3-2 to a Coelbren Athletic team they had comfortably beaten in the league encounter. Two goals from Simon Witheridge were not enough as the visitors now progress into the second round.

07/01/2012 Neath League

The lads kicked off the season with a fine win over Cilfrew Rovers and in doing so moved into the second promotion spot in Division One of the Neath League behind FC Clydach (checkout the Tables Page for information). Goals from Jordan Harris, Jason Rourke and Jake Barry produced the 3-1 win. Jason also missed a penalty.

29/12/2011 Under 19s A rare defeat for the lads in a game that was played at Port Talbot's ground due to the recent bad weather. The first half was one to forget for Ponty as the home side looked sharper and hungrier all around the pitch. Despite this the early chances fell to Ponty but they could not be capitalised on. Then, on 29 minutes, Port Talbot's Centre Half Aaron Biddescombe was given far too much time and he unleashed a stunning shot from 35 yards which cleared James Vyse in the Ponty goal to put the home side one up. Ponty did not learn from this and just 3 minutes later a header was flicked on by the busy Curtis Hutson for Jordan Edwards to head home for close range. The home side went into the break with a 2 goal advantage and this resulted in some stern words from Jason Dykes to his team.

These seemed to have worked as there was definitely more purpose with the Ponty lads early in the second half and this, together with a couple of substitutions, started to build some momentum which was rewarded on 58 minutes when James Beer crossed to Josh Roberts who laid it on a plate for Ryan Griffiths and he shot home from 20 yards. There was a sniff of a chance now and the Ponty lads stormed forward but when a move broke down on 70 minutes the home side increased their advantage as Curtis Hutson ran through to score from close range. Just 7 minutes later it was 4-1 as Alex Williams took his chance and although Sam Jones pulled another back for the visitors this was not enough.

In truth, a deserved win for the Port Talbot lads and a wake up call for the Ponty lads who ended the year losing their unbeaten run.

10/12/2011 Reserves

A great win in the cup at Newport YMCA won the lads a home tie against Briton Ferry Llansawel in the Quarter Finals. The 3-1 win came courtesy of goals from Craig "Bunji" Davies, Gareth "Gazza" Lewis and James "Freddie" Beer.

Phil's Video Link :Check Out The Video Coverage from Phil Govier

04/12/2011 Under 19s The lads were the only team to play over the weekend and they ended up 4-3 winners at Penydarren Park against Merthyr Town. Texts from Mrs Bowles suggest that this was a topsy turvy affair and a few stiff drinks were needed after the final whistl (medicinal of course!).Pontardawe's goals came from Liam Griffiths, Tom Grey and a couple from Tom Blizzard.

27/11/2011 Under 19s A massive win for the Under 19s in the 3rd Round of the FAW Youth Cup down at West End. This 6-2 win gains revenge for last season's cup exits and this was a great performance against a quality side. All of the lads were heroes on the day and goals came from Josh Roberts (2), Rees Harris (2), James Beer and Ryan Griffiths

26/11/2011 Neath League

Another great win for the lads, this week under the leadership of Jason Rourke, as goals from Gareth Govier, Ben Dorward and Jordan Harris gave the lads a 3-1 at Tir Canol over Inco Vale. Inco's goal was a late penalty.

Phil's Video Link :Check Out The Video Coverage from Phil Govier

20/11/2011 Under 19s The Under 19s moved to the top of the table today with a comfortable win up at Aberaman Athletic. Goals came from Rhodri Dykes, a Jack Medwin penalty, Ryan Griffiths, Tom Grey and two from Josh Dorward. This win will give the lads a great boost as they face up to the tough challenge of West End down in Swansea next Sunday. The lads are calling on everyone to come and support them in the 3rd Round FAW Youth Cup tie.

20/11/2011 Under 18s What is it about the number 5 and the Under 18s ? .... the lads remain top and unbeaten after a comfortable 5-2 win at home to Llangeinor who themselves have been in good form so far this season. Goalscorers to follow ....

19/11/2011 Neath League Overall this was another good performance from the lads who were up against former Premiership team FC Clydach. This was as a game they should have won as Simon Witheridge gave them the lead only for FC Clydach to equalise in the dying seconds.

19/11/2011 Reserves An exciting game saw the Reserves lose their unbeaten record 3-2 despite coming back from a 2 goal deficit in the first half. A penalty from Josh Roberts and a goal from Rhodri Dykes was not enough as Lido claimed the win with a late goal.

13/11/2011 Under 19s Jason Dykes was again shouting about the quality of this division after this excellent game which saw the lads win 1-0 despite going down to 10 men after Rees Harris was sent off. The deciding goal came from substitute Tom Grey and sees the lads move within 3 points of Carmarthen who are top but have played 3 more games.

12/11/2011 Neath League An excellent 4-1 win for this young side in a game against an experienced Ynysygerwn side. This was a game which saw an oustanding refereeing performance from a young local ref .... cannot remember his name though !

23/10/2011 Under 19 A massive victory for the Youth in Round 2 of the FAW Youth Cup at home to Merthyr Town by 4 goals to 2. These were two excellent sides and although Town suffered the withdrawal of Captain Niall Thomas just before kick off the lads were worthy winners.

Merthy took the lead on 29 minutes when Joe Leahy, who was dangerous throughout the game, beat James Vyse in the home goal from close range. On 40 minutes after Merthyr keeper, Mat Davies, saved well from Tom Grey but a minute later a Tom Blizzard corner was headed home by Josh Roberts to draw the sides level. Just before the break though the visitors took the lead again when Joe Jenkins  put the ball in the net with a overhead kick after Pontardawe gave the ball away cheaply.

The second half belonged to the home side who drew level with a great strike from Tom Blizzard after good work from Josh Dorward. Just two minutes later, on 49 minutes, Rhys Griffiths was pulled back by Leahy and Josh Roberts put the home side 3-2 up. The next chance fell to Rhys Griffiths who shot across the goal  on 59minutes.

Merthyr weren't giving up and Leahy brought a good save from Vyse on 64 minutes as the visitors searched for the equaliser. But this cause was not helped when coach John Henderson was sent off for dissent by referee Phil Davies on 64 minutes. The home side then immediately put the game out of reach, or so it seemed, when Rhys Griffiths was rewarded for his efforts with their 4th goal. Back came Merthyr though with a free kick on 81 minutes, again from Leahy, which was well saved by Vyse and minutes later Josh Dorward saved the home side again when he cleared off the line from an Owen Davies header. The final real action of the came was a great last ditch tackle by Rhodri Dykes on 87 minutes who had to leave the field soon after unable to recover from the knock.

This was an excellent win for the youth and for the club and we look forward to the next round .... well done lads !

08/10/2011 Neath League The Neath League guys lost to top of the table Resolven FC in a pretty dour affair with a lacklustre performance.  The game was won by 2 penalties but on piece of good news is that the worrying injury suffered by Jason Rourke shows no issues and Jason was last seen munching into a health sausage and chips at the clubhouse !

Corey Bevan was awarded Minge of The Match .....

02/10/2011 Under 19

The Under 19s had a relatively comfortable win in the league against Bryntiron Athletic with Captain Niall Thomas scoring twice in the first 20 minutes. The first was a header from a Josh Roberts free kick whilst the second was a cheeky back heel following a good header on by Liam Griffiths. In between Tom Blizzard had rattled the visitor's crossbar with an excellent free kick. The third goal came on the half hour from Rhys Harris who lobbed the keeper after being put through by James "Freddie" Beer. The final home goal came just on half time from Josh Dorward who tapped in a Rhodri Dykes cross.

In the second half Town were not able to push on and the final goal of the game was from Town's substitute Liam Roberts who scored an own goal that gave the visitors a deserved consolation goal.
